JM Eagle and Plastpro employees lent a hand to help the needy at the recent Habitat for Humanity Build Day, held in Lynwood, Calif.
Digging trenches, laying tile and hammering nails, the nearly 20 employees worked all day to help build 10 homes on Imperial Boulevard that are part of the project with the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. JM Eagle and Plastpro also donated 2,500 feet of EverPEX and 20 exterior doors respectively.
One of the homes will belong to single mother Sylvia Velasquez, who worked alongside the employees as part of her agreement with HFH GLA to put in 500 hours of “sweat equity.” Through tears, she described to the team her appreciation for the home, which will house her and her sons, aged 4 and 8.
One of the participants, a single mother herself, was JM Eagle HR Coordinator Sherry Huang. An immigrant from China, she has always been amazed by the American spirit of giving and volunteerism, but never found the time to share. She spent her day painting ceilings.
“Afterwards I was very sore, but it was worth it,” she says, explaining how moved she was to hear Sylvia’s story and how participating was a life-changing experience for herself. “These people really needed the help. I’m so happy JM Eagle gave me the opportunity to do this volunteer work.”
