J-M Manufacturing's Donation Gives Museum Project A Chance

Fundraising For The Minnesota Museum Gets A Boost With JMM's Support

Livingston, NJ – August 28, 2006 – J-M Manufacturing Company, the largest producer of plastic pipe in the world, has generously donated $25,000 towards fundraising efforts in Winnebago, Minnesota for a new museum.  Museum committee members were told last month by the city council that in order for the project to move forward, they would have to raise an additional $153,000 by the August 8th council meeting.  Larry Sickler, Plant Manager for JMM’s Winnebago plant, brought this project to the attention of JMM President & CEO, Walter Wang, for consideration, “When I told him the city was running out of time to raise money for the museum project, he was more than willing to help.”  The city’s museum committee has now raised $331,000 toward the estimated $650,000 project and the city has pledged to match the $325,000 needed by the committee.

Fundraising efforts, however, will need to continue now that bids for the construction project came in higher than anticipated.  The museum committee hopes to raise additional money during the city’s 150-year celebration.  Additionally, city councilwoman Maryann McClain notes they would consider increasing the city’s contribution to the museum project.

Sickler is hopeful that the community will come together to support the new museum and notes that the city has a lot of historical significance, "There are Indian sites all around the Winnebago area where many artifacts have been discovered. It is important that they have an adequate space to be displayed." The current museum serves as headquarters for the annual archaeological digs.
