JM Eagle CEO Walter Wang Honored with Humanitarian Award
Uni-Bell Pipe Association Lauds Executive's Extraordinary Philanthropy
Los Angeles - May 3, 2011 – JM Eagle President and Chief Executive Officer Walter Wang has been honored with the Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association's 2011 Humanitarian Award for his philanthropic endeavors around the world.
Uni-Bell, the authoritative source of information for PVC piping, presented Mr. Wang with the award at its annual meeting April 18-20 in Tucson, Ariz., for his extraordinary generosity in Asia, Central America and Afric.
"The Wangs have proved time and time again their commitment to ending poverty and improving the lives of needy individuals by helping to transport clean water worldwide," said Uni-Bell Executive Director Bruce Hollands. "The Humanitarian Award recognizes that remarkable contribution. Walter Wang has done an incredible amount to bring clean water to some of the most impoverished regions of the globe. We thank them and the world thanks them."
JM Eagle, the world's largest manufacturer of plastic pipe, was one of the first organizations to partner with the Earth Institute and Millennium Villages to bring sustainable water infrastructure to areas of extreme poverty in Africa. Over the last three years, Mr. Wang has donated hundreds of miles of PVC pipe and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash for the engineering of clean-water networks. Those networks are up and running in eight countries in Africa, improving the lives of thousands of natives in areas of extreme poverty across the continent.
"I am thrilled to accept this award, but I am even more thrilled to be able to help improve access to clean, safe water for so many people," Wang said. "I urge other business leaders in all areas of manufacturing to join me in giving back to society, reinvesting in our world and helping others in all areas of the globe that are less fortunate."
The Wangs are also deeply involved in partnerships with the Clinton Global Initiative, the World Economic Forum and numerous anti-poverty programs in the U.S. such as Habitat for Humanity.
Founded in 1971, the Uni-Bell PVC Pipe Association is a non-profit organization that serves the engineering, regulatory, public health and standardization communities. It is the authoritative source of information about PVC pipe. Its members recently honored Mr. Wang at its 39th annual meeting in Tucson, April 18-20, the largest gathering of PVC pipe and fitting manufacturers in the world.
