Trump takes on California again; this time it's water safety as EPA sends warning letter

Last week, President Donald Trump was visiting California on a fundraising swing when he suggested the state would soon be put on notice due to "tremendous pollution being put into the ocean."

Specifically, the president referenced the growing homelessness problem in San Francisco and Los Angeles, which he said was resulting in needles and human waste being swept through city sewers and out to sea.

On Thursday, that warning was made real in the form of a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom from Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler, giving the state 30 days to respond to a long list of "deficiencies" that were putting citizens at risk.

If the deadline passed, "the EPA will be forced to take action," the letter read, without offering specifics.
