JM Eagle and Plastpro Support Habitat for Humanity of Los Angeles

September 2011

Local Partnership Continues with Staff Build Day

Employee volunteers from JM Eagle and Plastpro have once again teamed up with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) for a Staff Build Day to continue construction of affordable, green houses for low-income families in Lynwood, CA. This second Build Day was in addition to donations of 2,500 square feet of PEX Pipe from JM Eagle and 24 exterior doors that will help complete another three U.S.G.B.C. LEED® Silver – certified homes in the Los Angeles suburb.

Gift-in-kind donations and volunteer support like that offered by JM Eagle and Plastpro are vital to the success of the organization; allowing it to reduce construction costs and build safe, sustainable, affordable housing in partnership with hard-working families and individuals in the greater Los Angeles area.

Both JM Eagle and Plastpro -- led by husband and wife CEOs Walter and Shirley Wang respectively -- are Los Angeles-based manufacturers known for generous charitable contributions locally and around the world. JM Eagle, the world’s largest plastic pipe maker, recently donated more than 400 hundred miles of its product to help bring clean, safe drinking water to more than 160,000 inhabitants of rural villages in Africa. Plastpro, maker of fiberglass entry doors, has donated more than 500 doors to various chapters of Habitat for Humanity. Employee volunteers from the sister companies joined HFH GLA staff for a day of hard work, fulfillment and learning new skills to advance construction on the three, new homes on Imperial Highway in Lynwood.

“We are all thrilled to continue our long-term partnership with HFH GLA,” said Neal Gordon, JM Eagle’s Vice President of Marketing. “HFH GLA continues to be an ideal way for us to give back to our local community with tangible, practical and lasting housing solutions, all while giving our employees a hands-on opportunity to enrich their lives and the city they call home.”

Los Angeles continues to rank last in housing affordability in the United States. HFH GLA is able to make homeownership a reality in this city for hard-working families only because individuals, companies and organizations generously contribute time, services and materials. HFH GLA provides a hand-up, not a hand out to low-income families by partnering with them to build their homes. Qualifying families agree to complete 500 hours of “sweat equity” and to pay back a zero-interest mortgage.
